Deciding What Fly To Tie On At a Fishy Looking Spot on the Upper Gunpowder Falls

15" x 30"

Acrylics on Gallery Wrapped Canvas

$600.00

(Artist's note:  This painting renders one of my favorite spots on the Upper Gunpwder Falls, which is a part of Maryland's Gunpowder Falls State Park, and has been a Catch & Return Trout Stream since the 1980's.  I love how the boulders which are exposed there always seem to have a mottled appearance.   The river flows swift and deep there, actually undercutting the boulders at the bottom edge of the hillside boulder field.   But on the other side it is completely different.  In places, the current flows upstream, in a big eddies.  The biggest trout in the river live there, but conditions make it perhaps the most callenging spot on the entire river.)

Looking for Shark's Teeth at Calvert Cliffs

18" x 24" Acrylics on Gallery Wrapped Canvas

$600.00

(Artist's note:  Calvert Cliffs is a geological wonder in Maryland.  The land was under an ancient sea, and was home to numerous aquatic species, the most famous of which were sharks.  The land eventually was uplifted, along the western side of the Chesapeake Bay, and there is a 30 mile stretch with cliffs butting up against the water.  As the cliff face erodes, the bones of extinct sea turtles, whales, and sharks are exposed.  The cliffs are dangerous, as trees and other vegetation fall onto the narrow beach below.  For that reason, people are prohibited from walking below the cliffs.  However, there are two public beaches, on either end of the cliffs - the north and the south sides - that are open to the public, and people will visit in hopes of collecting shatks teeh and other fossils.)

(Artist’s note: “King & Queen Seat at Rocks State Park” is a notable rock formation, and scenic overlook, steeped in legend.  Supposedly Native American tribes met there for ceremonial purposes.  These days, it is easily accessed by hikers, by way of a nearby parking area.  For those who are physically fit, there is a much steeper path ascending the hill from the parking area below.)
