Some Nice Bluegills on a Stringer
11" x 14" Acrylics on Gesso Board
$400.00
(Artist's note: My brother John and I always say that we were raised on bluegills. They are delicious. Anytime that the weather was nice out, our Dad was ready to drive out to Lake Gordon (Bedford Co, PA) and catch a stringer full of bluegills.
For a long stretch of time during the 80's I switched to Catch and Release Trout Fishing. I was in to it. I tied flies, built rods and even did some guiding. I didn't eat a fish that I had caught myself during that time.
A few years ago, I got the hankering to eat some bluegills again. So these days, when I do make it out fishing (instead of painting), it's usually at a local pond or lake.
With that in mind, I just finished my latest painting. It is on an 11" x 14" x 1/8" gessoboard, and is titled, "Some Nice Bluegills on a Stringer".
This is the first painting that I have done entirely with Golden's Open Acrylics. These paints stay wet on the pallet like oils. I wanted to focus on blending colors. I figured that colorful bluegills would certainly provide a good challenge. It was fun to see how they performed on the gessoboard.
